STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS FOR A KENYA-EDUCATED RN (TRUMERIT PATHWAY)

1. Choose the U.S. state where you want licensure.

Each state board of nursing sets its own rules. Some require a TruMerit/CES Professional Report, while others may differ.

2. Open a TruMerit account and apply for credential evaluation.

Most Kenyan nurses need the Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) Professional Report.

3. Arrange for your nursing school documents to be sent.

Your nursing school in Kenya must send transcripts directly to TruMerit.

4. Arrange license verification from Kenya.

Your Nursing Council of Kenya license must be verified.

5. Apply to the state board of nursing.

Submit your application for licensure by examination (NCLEX).

6. Register for the NCLEX-RN with Pearson VUE.

Pay exam fees and create your testing account.

7. Wait for eligibility and receive ATT (Authorization to Test).

Once approved, you will be allowed to schedule your exam.

8. Schedule and take the NCLEX-RN.

You can take it internationally at a Pearson VUE testing center.

9. Complete remaining state licensure requirements.

After passing NCLEX, the state board will issue your RN license.

10. Apply for VisaScreen (if immigrating).

Required for most foreign-educated nurses entering the U.S.

11. Complete English language requirements.

Take TOEFL or IELTS unless exempt.

12. Proceed with employer sponsorship and immigration (EB-3).

Work with a U.S. employer to complete immigration processing.
